The 20th conference "Ensuring Trust and Security in the Use of ICT" was held in Moscow by Russian Association of Networks and Services (RANS) on March 23-24. The Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ acted as the general partner of the event and also held a round table "Security ecosystem of Russian ccTLDs .RU and .РФ".
Director of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ Andrey Vorobyev has moderated the section and described how the security ecosystem of the Russian domain zone is organized and works, what threats and challenges it faces, as well as what security projects are being implemented by the Coordination Center and Competent Organizations. He also noted that the security ecosystem of the Russian national domains .RU and . РФ is the legal system of the Russian Federation with the best projects and practices of Russian companies, domestic monitoring systems, partnerships between market players and other measures aimed at ensuring the security of our national zone.
“The DNS technology itself was created at the very beginning of the Internet, when no one thought about network security. DNS works without authentication and encryption, processing the requests from any user. In this regard, there are many ways to deceive the user and to fake information on where the resolution of names to IP addresses is actually performed. Therefore, the Coordination Center for .RU/.РФ domains pays great attention to ensuring the integrity and availability of DNS services, and also monitors the registry of national domains .RU and .РФ,” said Andrey Vorobyev, Director of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ. He also cited the Coordination Center’s projects "Domain Patrol" and "Netoscope" as examples.
The round table was also attended by Ivan Parkhomenko (Russian Ministry of Digital Development), Alexander Chernyshov (Integral), Alexander Zhgut (RU-CENTER), Andrey Kuzmichev (RU-CENTER), Pavel Patrikeev (REG.ru), Alexey Rogdev (Technical Center Internet) and Alexander Kalinin (Group-IB). The participants discussed the possibility of connecting registrar information systems to the Unified Identification and Authentication System, creating a backup registration system, ensuring the stable functioning of the Russian segment of the Internet and the role of the Coordination Center in solving such problems.
The conference also touched upon the issues of international relations and personnel policy in the field of IT. Round table “Formation of a personnel reserve in accordance with the Government Decision of the Russian Federation of September 27, 2021 No. 1632” was held to discuss this topic. The implementation of the tasks of comprehensive humanitarian and technological training of experts to represent the interests of the Russian Federation in international organizations was discussed during this section. The topic of education and training to represent the interests of the country in international organizations is one of the priorities for the Coordination Center for .RU/.РФ. To do this, the Coordination Center holds seminars and a special course for the youth, as well as the annual Summer School on Internet Governance.
In addition, there was a stand of the Coordination Center in the conference hall, where participants could learn about the areas of activity and the most important projects of the Coordination Center. The stand featured information material of the Coordination Center on different aspects of the organization's activities.
